Sean Giblin is currently a Professor in Physics at Cardiff University in Wales (UK) and enjoys researching many aspects of superconductivity and magnetism. He enjoys probing these materials with both bulk and local probes to understand the properties of materials. Sean uses neutrons and muons to probe magnetic frustrated spin systems and have recently built a unique high frequency ac susceptometer to probe spin dynamics in a frequency range which has been difficult to achieve. This has allowed him to measure superposed states of magnetic systems, essentially extracting information about quantum states from systems that are dominated by thermal processes. He is currently developing methods to try and measure entanglement and phase coherence in many body systems and have recently shown that a muon can be treated as a qubit and be used to measure entangled states that can be controlled by RF manipulation by using techniques from the quantum technology community.
