Ray Newell

Los Alamos National Laboratory

Raymond Newell is a senior research scientist at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, where he has been employed since 2003. He holds a PhD and MS in AMO physics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a BA in physics from Pomona College. He leads the Quantum Communications team at Los Alamos. His research interests span quantum information sciences for national security and basic science applications, which has led to over 100 scientific works and roughly 20 patents. In addition, Raymond is the chief optical scientist for the SuperCam Body Unit; a suite of remote sensing instruments aboard the Mars Perseverance rover.
