Joe Chapman

Joseph Chapman was granted a PhD in Physics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2020 where he experimentally lead Paul Kwiat’s investigation to implement quantum communication in space for NASA. In 2017, he was awarded the competitive National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowship by the Department of Defense. In 2019, he was awarded the Donald and Shirley Jones Fellowship for outstanding graduate students by his department. After a postdoctoral position, he accepted a research scientist position to stay at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and remains in the quantum communication and networking group. His current research at ORNL focuses on quantum network hardware development for fiber and free-space implementations. He is a member of Optica (formerly the Optical Society of America) and the International Society for Optics and Photonics (SPIE). He is also a regular reviewer for the Physical Review and Optica families of journals.
