David Hume is a physicist at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). He received his PhD from the University of Colorado in 2010 for developing quantum metrology techniques with trapped ions. As a postdoctoral researcher at Heidelberg University he pursued spin-squeezing and single-atom counting with neutral atoms in a Bose-Einstein condensate. Currently he leads a research group at NIST developing trapped-ion optical clocks with world-leading accuracy and stability using quantum information techniques.
